The First Annual Summer Celebration of Water Festival was a huge success; drawing more than 700 people to Riverfront Park. The festival was presented by Richland County in partnership with the City of Columbia, City of Forest Acres and the Town of Arcadia Lakes on Saturday, August 28th.
Residents were able to enjoy tubing and kayaking down the Columbia Canal, splash around the Wet Sandals play area, go fishing, and have a slide down an inflatable waterfall; all while learning about water quality and how to keep our lakes and streams clean.
Richland County Council members, Bill Malinowski (District 1) and Norman Jackson (District 11) joined in the spirit of the festival by taking a leisurely paddle down the Columbia Canal.
Councilman Jim Manning (District 8) also participated in the “Together We Can Read” program with other county and city “celebrity guests”.
August was National Water Quality Month.
