Candidate Filing Information  
Primaries:
  • Filing opens at Noon March 16 and closes at Noon, March 30
  • Candidates file with the executive committee of their respective parties
  • Filing fees are 1% of the total salary for the term of that office
Petition Candidates:
  • Petitions must be submitted no later than Noon, July 16 (for 2012)
  • Petitions must have signatures of at least 5% of the voters of geographical area of office
  • For countywide or less offices, candidates file with the Richland County Elections & Voter Registration office; for multi-county, State Senate, State House of Representatives offices, candidates file with the State Election Commission
  • No filing fee
  • Statements of Economic Interest (SEI) must be filed online at http://ethics.sc.gov/ with the State Ethics Commission. Also, when filing, bring a paper copy of the completed SEI. Contact the State Ethics Commission with questions about SEI filing. 803-253-4192
School Board – Nonpartisan:
  • Filings opens at Noon, August 1, and closes at Noon, August 15
  • Candidates file with the Richland County Elections & Voter Registration office
  • No filing fee
  • Candidates should complete a nonpartisan Statement of Intention of Candidacy available at www.scvotes.org.
  • Statements of Economic Interest (SEI) must be filed online at http://ethics.sc.gov/ with the State Ethics Commission. Also, when filing, bring a paper copy of the completed SEI. Contact the State Ethics Commission with questions about SEI filing. 803-253-4192
Soil and Water Conservation Commissioner-Non Partisan:
  • Petitions must be submitted no later than Noon, July 16 (for 2012)
  • Petition must have signatures of at least 100 Richland County voters
  • Candidates file with the Richland County Elections & Voter Registration office
  • No filing fee
