W. Barney Giese received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina
in 1978. In 1981, Barney received his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina Law School.
Barney Giese began his career in 1979 in the Fifth Circuit as a law clerk. Upon graduation from law school,
he was appointed as an Assistant Solicitor. He was appointed as Deputy Solicitor for James C. Anders in
1985 and was re-appointed by Solicitor Richard A. Harpootlian in 1991. In 1993, Barney entered his private practice.
Mr. Giese was first elected Fifth Circuit Solicitor on November 8, 1994.
He was re-elected in both 1998 and 2002. Solicitor Giese currently serves as President of the South Carolina Solicitor’s Association.
He is married to Charlotte Ann Hamilton and has three children. Barney and his family reside in Northeast Richland County.
