To vote in South Carolina you must be registered. To register to vote...
- You must be a citizen of the United States and South Carolina.
- a resident in the County and voting precinct you are to vote in
- be at least 18 years of age as of the next election
- not be under any court order declaring you mentally incompetent
- not serving a term of imprisonment resulting from a conviction of a crime
- and not have been convicted of a felony or offense against election laws.

Applications to vote may be made in person at the Voter Registration Office at
2020 Hampton Street or at legally organized voter registration drives throughout
the County. Additionally, you register by completing the mail-in form at return it to:

There is no length of residency requirement in South Carolina in order to
register to vote. You can register at any time.
|
|
You must be registered at least 30 days prior to any election in order to
vote in that election. Registration by mail must be postmarked no later
than 30 days prior to that particular election to be eligible.

| Students |
|
Students may register to vote where they attend college only if they
establish that they are a bona fide resident of that community. In
establishing such residency, students must demonstrate that they intend
to remain in the community permanently or indefinitely.

| Assistance at Polls |
|
Assistance in marking a ballot is allowed only if the voter is blind,
illiterate or physically handicapped. A voter entitled to receive assistance
may choose anyone to assist except his employer, agent of his employer,
or an officer or agent of his union.

| Absentee Voting |
|
If you will be absent from your county of residence on election day, you may
be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. To find out if you qualify, contact
Voter Registration.

| If You Move... |
|
If you move from one county to another or from one precinct to another you
must re-register to vote.

| Did You Know? |
- For identification to vote, you may present either your voter registration certificate, a valid SC Driver's License, or a SC Department of Motor Vehicles photo I.D. card. If you registration card is ever lost or stolen, you may obtain a duplicate, even on election day, from the Voter Registration Office.
- Husbands and wives cannot vote in the same voting booth
- Polls open at 7:00am and stay open until 7:00pm
